Industry benchmark
Since its early beginning in Vitoria-Gasteiz back in 2008, Bilbao Mendi Film Festival has become a major international benchmark of film festivals related to mountaineering, adventure and extreme sports, becoming in record time one of the most important attractions of the industry.
In its last edition, a total of 7,300 people went to the numerous sessions of the event and 47 films were submitted to the contest. In addition, lots of outstanding figures attended the festival: Rebecca Martin, Director of the Expeditions Council at National Geographic; the adventurer and Hollywood producer David Breashears; artists and filmmakers such as the American Jeremy Collins, the Colombian Patricia Ayala, the Polish Bartek Swiderski, the German Sebastian Mez, or the French Mathieu Le Lay; mountaineers and climbers such as Alberto Iñurrategi, Juan Vallejo, Mikel Zabalza, Jordi Corominas, Hansjörg Auer, Remi Thivel, the Pou brothers, Edurne Pasaban and Alberto Zerain; and film directors like Montxo Armendariz, who was honoured on the 30th anniversary of his film 'Tasio'.
Some of the best pieces that could be seen in the 2014 edition of the Bilbao Mendi Film Festival will be screened again during the next events of the Mendi Tour, which will be held in Orona, Hernani (22nd April), Arrasate (5th May) and Donostia-San Sebastian (11th and 14th May).
