GAU MAGIKOA (in basque)
An event for children that combines storytelling, theatre, music, and projections. A ‘magical’ atmosphere that, combined with touches of humour, invites children and their families to let their imagination run wild.
A story, performed by the company Les Bobè-Bobé, and four films to spin it:
LEIZETA (Ion Fontela, documentary, 8 min, in Basque): Leizeta is a cave in Ataun (Gipuzkoa). Garazi, Naiara and Alaitz will show us the relationship between science and magic.
CHIMBORAZO (Keyla Cepeda, animation, 7 min, no dialogue): an old ice man has felt the damage caused to nature by the supposed progress of human beings, in the Chimborazo volcano in Ecuador.
FALLIN' (Carlos Navarro, animation, 10 min, no dialogue): The spirit of Winter wanders, and the Spirit of Autumn will help him find his way.
SPRING (Andy Goralzcyk, animation, 8 min, no dialogue): A little shepherdess and her dog call upon the spirits of the ancestors to light the flame of Spring.
LEIZETA
The Leizeta cave is located in the centre of the Ataun holm oak forest. Garazi, Naiara and Alaitz will show us how cave structures form and they will talk to us about the importance of protecting bats. We will get to know the meeting point of science and magic with them, to learn how to protect this environment forever.
CHIMBORAZO
For hundreds of years the ice workers from Chimborazo, have endured the harsh conditions caused by this volcano, in the Ecuadorian Andes, in exchange for cut some of its ice and provide for their people. Today it is a profession on the verge of extinction if it were not for Baltazar Ushca. Despite his age, every day he walks for hours to the volcano’s glacier to extract huge blocks of ice that he then sells in the nearest town.

When the Spirit of Winter awakens in a season that is not its own, it must learn to find beauty in the unknown, facing its own prejudices and accepting the changes of the cycle. He will have the warmth of the Spirit of Autumn, in landscapes inspired by the Forest of Oma in Bizkaia and the Irati Forest in Navarra.
